The Cardiovascular Special Interest Group, along with the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, is hosting a workshop in order to begin to produce national standards for the acceptance of common heart valve pathologies such as atheroma and calcification. The event will take place over the afternoon and will consist of a panel discussion between surgeons and pathologists, using slides provided by BATB affiliated valve banks. We also hope to hold a discussion on the necessity for testing of donors for the presence of TB- from the perspective of two leading clinical microbiologists. There will also be several short presentations from keynote speakers, on subjects as diverse as homograft immunology and tissue engineering.
